(1) Philips HTS3544 1000 watt 5.1 Home Theater System w/HD Upconverting DVD, HDMI, iPod Dock, USB, DivX
Description: (click show to see it)
This thing is an insatiable A/V omnivore, man. Almost any media
files that get close enough, it snaps 'em up and plays the bejeezus out
of them. Basically anything on a disc is fair game, including CDs and
DVDs with just about any combination of Rs and RWs you can assemble.
(OK, not Laserdiscs or LPs, but come on.)
It also plays digital photos and music from USB
drives. It plays audio off your mp3 player when you connect it to the
line-in jack. It can dock an iPod. An iPod! It's DivX "Ultra Certified"
for your DivX videos. WMA? You betcha. JPEGs? Better believe it.
wish our parents had this thing, because when we come home at
Thanksgiving with a bunch of vacation photos we want to show them,
we'll all have to crowd around someone's notebook PC, or wait while
someone says "oh, I have a cable that connects the camera to the TV,"
and then goes and hunts for it, only to find six mystery cables and try
them all before figuring out none of them is the right one, and then
it's back to the notebook.
When it's time to watch a
movie, listen to music, look at pictures or share some sick, horrible
thing you found online, you don't want to have to sit and think about
file compatibility. You just want to get on with it. Otherwise the
expectations get to be too much, and when you finally get the file
playing, everyone's like: "I don't know, dude, it's not that
sick and horrible. I was expecting worse from the way you built it up
for ten minutes while we were trying to figure out how to play it."
With 1080i HDMI, 12-bit video DAC
and high-definition video upconversion, your media will look great.
With digital multichannel audio, Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II
surround sound, your movies and music will sound great, too.
since the Philips thousand-watt system is (to paraphrase a certain grey
wizard) the One Thing To Play Them All, you can get down to the
business of enjoying the contents of your media library with a whole
lot less scratching of heads and rummaging through the drawer where you
keep all those cables.
But no, you can't throw out your record player just yet, sorry.
Enjoy crisp, clear sound from this 5.1-channel surround sound system rated at 1000 watts with an 8" high efficiency subwoofer.
Progressive scan DVD player with 1080i HD video upconversion and HDMI output. Direct digital connection that
can carry digital HD video as well as digital multichannel audio. By
eliminating the conversion to analog signals it delivers perfect
picture and sound quality, completely free from noise. HDMI is fully backward-compatible with DVI (Digital Video Interface)
DTS, Dolby Digital and Pro Logic II surround sound. A built-in DTS
and Dolby Digital decoder eliminates the need for an external decoder
by processing all six channels of audio information to provide a
surround sound experience and an astoundingly natural sense of ambience
and dynamic realism. Dolby Pro Logic II provides five channels of
surround processing from any stereo source
12-bit/108MHz video processing for sharp, natural images. 12-bit Video DAC
is a superior Digital-to-Analogue-Converter that preserves every detail
of the authentic picture quality. It shows subtle shades and smoother
graduation of colors, resulting in a more vibrant and natural picture.
The limitation of the usual 10bit DAC become in particular apparent while using large screens and projectors
Ultra Certified for enhanced playback of DivX videos. DivX Ultra
combines DivX playback with great features like integrated subtitles,
multiple audio languages, multiple tracks and menus into one convenient

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday next week, cheese will be prepared and packaged for delivery the week of December 8th.
Well, well, well. Looks like we got ourselves an old-fashioned
Californy cheese-off. Three acclaimed cheesemakers from three distinct
parts of California coagulate for the first time on Wine.Woot. And
there can only be one winner: you, the cheese lover of America.
outta Haarlem (in the Netherlands, we mean), Jules Wesselink brought
his Dutch cheese-crafting skills to Artesia, California in the '50s.
Skipping one step ahead of the L.A. sprawl, he moved his operation to
Chino and then to Winchester. That's where Jules's daughter Valerie
Thomas and her husband David made this buttery, rich, farm-fresh Mild
Gouda. Aged at least 60 days, this Boere Kaas (that means "farm made")
cheese took the Gold Medal at the L.A. County Fair. We didn't even know
L.A. County had a county fair.
Back in the '70s,
Mary Keehn of Humboldt County discovered that she had a talent for
selectively breeding goats. This is not the kind of thing that ever
happens to people like us. But then, people like us don't make
internationally-recognized cheeses like Mary's Cypress Grove line of
fine goat cheeses. But don't take our word for it: ask New York's
Summer Fancy Food Show, which awarded Cypress Grove the Outstanding
Product Line award in 2007. With lavender and fennel pollen adding a
sweetness to the cheese's natural acidity, Cypress Grove Purple Haze
Chevre proves that Humboldt County can excel at more than one type of
And then there's our old friends at Point Reyes,
back again with the Original Blue Cheese we featured about a year ago.
It's not a 3-pound wheel this time, just a 1-pound wedge. But it's
still made from hours-old milk from cows that graze on the hills
overlooking Tomales Bay, north of San Francisco. It's still made by the
Giacomini family, who've been raising milk cows there since 1959. And
it still boasts a much fuller flavor and creamier texture than your
average blue, perfect with Syrah or Port.
You won't find
cheeses like this plastic-wrapped in individual slices. You won't find
them anywhere, in fact, except California and Wine.Woot. And maybe on
your table this holiday season, unless you're crazy enough to let this
incredible cheese triple-play pass you by.
Aged a minimum of 60 days
